When you first create your WebYetu website, it goes live on a free subdomain like yourbusiness.webyetu.online. This is perfect for getting started. But connecting a custom domain like yourbrand.co.tz makes you look more professional and helps you rank higher on Google. Here is exactly how to do it.
Step 1: Purchase Your Domain
If you do not already own a domain, purchase one from a domain registrar. For Tanzanian businesses, a .co.tz domain typically costs between 22,500/- and 25,000/- TZS per year. A .com domain ranges from 31,000/- to 50,000/- TZS per year. WebYetu supports connecting any domain extension — .co.tz, .com, .org, .net, or any other.
Step 2: Point Your Domain to WebYetu
Log into your domain registrar and open the DNS settings. Create an A record pointing your domain to the server IP address shown inside your WebYetu dashboard under Settings → Custom Domain.
- Host / Name: @ (your root domain)
- Type: A
- Value: The IP address shown in your WebYetu dashboard
- TTL: 3600 or Automatic
To also support www.yourdomain.com, add a second A record with Host set to www pointing to the same IP.
Step 3: Enter Your Domain in WebYetu
Go to Dashboard → Settings → Custom Domain, type your domain name and save. WebYetu will automatically issue a free SSL certificate for your domain within minutes — no extra steps required.
Step 4: Wait for DNS Propagation
DNS changes take between 15 minutes and 24 hours to fully propagate. Once complete, anyone who visits your domain lands directly on your WebYetu website, secured with HTTPS automatically.
Troubleshooting Tips
- If your domain shows a blank page after 24 hours, double-check that the A record value matches the IP in your dashboard exactly.
- Remove any conflicting CNAME records on your root domain — they can block A records from working.
- If you manage your own DNS proxy, ensure HTTPS traffic is allowed through to the WebYetu servers.
